i bet damen was such a romantic to a loser degree of romantic even before falling in love with laurent. i bet he was always like 'of course i know what love is! i fall in love all the time' and he's talking about like the blonde courtier of the week.

the funniest thing about this is the idea that he understands he's Actually in love for real this time through the most layered and mentally ill sex of all time with the most virginal non-virgin person of all time. with the most emotionally constipated and sexually repressed cunt you have ever fucking met. laurent was literally shaking like a bug eyed purse dog about to bite his fingers off the entire time he was under damen and damen was like 'it's never like this 🥺 i've never felt like this before🥺' the entire fucking time. AND he is actually nervous. damianos of akielos is having sex with an emotional virgin and he is fumbling with the lube thinking 'god i hope he doesn't think i'm a loser' like damen that is absolutely the last thing laurent is thinking about in this moment. then damen wakes up the next day thinking actually that's the best sex he's ever had and then he maintains that stance until the next time he sleeps with the same guy.

cs pacat is a writing god

Something that I admire about Captive Prince and Pacat's writing as a whole is how truly realistic and multidimensional all the characters feel.

I've seen "realistic" characters as people who have a strong moral flaw, a major weakness, etc, but Pacat takes it to a whole other level. I could write pages on each character and why they do what they do.

Every sentence of dialogue from Damen or Laurent or Nicaise or anyone just feels so...them. Every time Damen starts thinking about Laurent and then shifts over to something else, I understand why. When Will finds out that James has the collar on, I feel his pain. Even if I dont know the personal reasons for why someone would say something, I would still know that that person would say that, because that is what Pacat's writing and thought process does to me.

Sometimes I compare Captive Prince to certain dark academia books, because of how honest it is and how hard it tugs on your heartstrings. The characters are so deeply complex and layered that I can't help but be so damn invested into the characters. Layer on an insane political plot, and you'll be living rent free in my head till the day I die.

damen loves laurent 10000%!!!!!! i just felt it was out of character for him to say it back. this is going to be a long ask bc i'm passionate about this!!

every single one of damen's relationships - sexual, platonic or otherwise - are still very emotionally closed off. he's a messed up, emotionally unintelligent dude.

damen doesn't even say i love you to isander, someone he genuinely, truly loves!!!

and i kind of hinted at it with jokaste/damen but damen goes on and on and on about how much he loves her but we have no indication he ever said this to her. she even calls him emotionally unintelligent before she leaves.

so like damen FEELS things for sure, but he doesn't say it.

when laurent asks "don't you love me too?" i didn't intend it for damen not to love laurent. the way i saw it in my head, damen was just genuinely shocked laurent said it so easily, that laurent felt those feelings at all. it's laurent who misinterprets his silence.

i always saw laurent as someone who knew about damen's feelings (he even alludes to this later on). it's why laurent was more heartbroken bc for laurent, his feelings for damen trumped everything, while damen was able to push them aside to make way for everything else in his life.

that was why damen's book was so important - it said everything about damen's feelings. the plot, the fact that the main character chose the path that gets him his true love, despite it ruining everything else, and ofc the dedication. it's why laurent comes back.

Hello!! I'm so incredibly sorry it took me more than a month instead of the day or ten I joked about in my tags. I wasn't feeling too great and I also lost my motivation to participate in the fandom in any way. So it was hard for me to focus on this task.

Laurent's chapter 3 update was so 🥺🥺 I love him. So much. You don't even know. The UNICORN let me tell u i gasped and squealed like a teenager. A thousand kisses for that man. Playing as a more straightforward/sarcastic MC and him giving the same energy back making jokes SMILING!! SMILING FR!! I love getting more insight into his personality and the small details of every day life with him and the MC, it's so worth it.

I am glad you enjoyed it, I can’t tell you how stoked I am to finally be able to write more interactions and stuff I omitted in the VN :D I hope you’ll enjoy the future chapters as well, I’ll be working very diligently on them whenever I have the time

"Damen?"

Damen's eyes snapped open in the darkness. It took him a couple of seconds to remember where they were, and what they were doing there. After a while, Laurent stirred in his arms with a sniffle, and it melted away all remnants of fear in Damen's chest. Damen pulled him closer against his body.

"How are you feeling?" he asked, rubbing wide circles on Laurent's back, then placing a hand on the back of his neck to check his temperature. He was still burning up, but him being awake was already a very good sign.

"I'm cold."

That was to be expected. Halvik had made sure they'd be brought their best furs, but it was still too cold in the tent, even when Damen felt like a furnace himself. He was sweating a lot and so was Laurent, his night shirt shirt damp and sticking to his skin.

"It'll help lowering your fever a little," he said, and despite himself he still allowed Laurent to burrow his head under the furs and tuck his face close to his armpit. He brushed his hair with his fingers soothingly. "It's just one night, and tomorrow we'll go back to the camp. Paschal can take a look at you then."

"I don't need Paschal to take a look at me."

Damen closed his eyes and sighed. "Yes, you do," he said, poking one of Laurent's ribs under the furs. Laurent squirmed. "Actually, I would've appreciated it a lot if you'd let him check on you before coming all the way here on our own. Would've saved me the terrifying experience of seeing you faint in the middle of a political meeting."

"I didn't faint."

Damen tried very hard not to roll his eyes. "Yes you did."

He spent the following five minutes fishing Laurent out from under the furs. Laurent struggled, but he was too weak to resist. Damen pulled their covers down half of Laurent's body, and hushed him when he complained.

"You'll overheat," he chided, pushing back Laurent's hair from his forehead and pressing his lips against it. Hot. If it didn't go down anytime soon, he'd have to take up on Halvik's offer to bring them cold water to try and bring it down in a much less gentle way. "We should've stayed at an inn tonight."

"So you could've asked for a physician for your pet?" Laurent said. "So you could've had a complete stranger come into the room and give you instructions to spread my thighs open so he can comfortably sit between my legs and stick a thermometer in my..."

"We could've just had Paschal stay with us," Damen sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. Laurent sniffled and nuzzled his neck now that he'd ruined his fun, sulking in silence. "Paschal wouldn't do that."

"Wouldn't he?"

Damen closed his eyes and tried very, very hard not to think about it. "Sleep, or your fever will get higher, and I'll have to bring you to the nearest river and bring it down myself."

Laurent let out a small sigh, and his breath and his eyelashes tickled Damen's neck when he closed his eyes again. Damen gave his waist a small squeeze, kissed his forehead again, and closed his eyes too. Laurent's breaths started to even out slowly. "I'm sorry I scared you."

Damen smiled against his cheek. "It's okay, now." A pat to his rear. "Sleep."

He had to ask for the cold water not even one hour after that.

Sorry for this question, but what would be the reaction of Laurent from Bells for him to Damen's eventual death? I just want some angst and I just love your version of Laurent <3

OH BOY damen’s eventual death….. 😭 i believe (both in canonverse and bfh) laurent would follow damen shortly after his passing 🥺 and i don’t even think the cause of it would be s*icide. (tho i wouldn’t rule it out entirely) i just think his heartbreak would be too great for him to recover.

laurent’s immediate reaction would definitely depend on the circumstances surrounding damen’s death. meaning if damen passed away peacefully in his old age, laurent would still feel like his entire world collapsed on him but at least he would find the strength to tidy up their kingdom for one last time for a few years before passing away in his sleep. on the other hand, if damen suddenly died in his forties or something from some unexpected cause (a terminal illness, heart attack, slipped and hit his head etc) laurent would absolutely lose his entire sanity. i’m talking about refusing to sleep, eat or talk type of grief. he would go on like that for a couple of months at maximum before dying as well. :((

and if damen was assassinated or killed in battle? i can’t begin to imagine the type of atrocities laurent would commit to avenge him 🫢 let’s just say dracula from castlevania summoning night creatures from the depths of hell to wipe out humanity after his wife was murdered is a good reference…
